3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

I\u2019m recruiting for an experienced 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer to join a growing organisation with a busy, modern IT environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working across cloud, networking, infrastructure and security. You\u2019ll play a key role in maintaining a stable, secure and highly available IT environment while supporting wider technology projects.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex IT incidents and service issues.

  • Take ownership of infrastructure problems from investigation through to resolution.

  • Support the availability, performance and security of servers, networks, cloud platforms and virtual environments.

  • Oversee vulnerability remediation and ensure systems are regularly updated and securely maintained.

  • Develop and maintain reliable backup, recovery and business continuity processes, including regular testing.

  • Configure and support firewalls, VPNs, network services and infrastructure monitoring.

  • Manage and strengthen email security controls, helping protect the organisation against phishing, spoofing and data loss.

  • Contribute to major technology changes, including infrastructure upgrades, migrations and new system rollouts.

  • Work with internal IT teams and external technology partners to resolve complex issues and deliver technical improvements.

  • Analyse recurring problems and identify opportunities to improve the reliability and efficiency of the IT environment.

  • Create and maintain technical knowledge articles, system documentation and operational procedures.

  • Share technical knowledge with less experienced members of the team and provide support where required.


Skills & Experience:



  • Solid background in 3rd Line Support, Infrastructure, Network or Cloud Engineering.

  • Strong practical experience across Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure networking and security services.

  • Good understanding of enterprise networking, including routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, VPNs and network security.

  • Experience working with enterprise firewall technologies such as Palo Alto, Fortinet or Cisco.

  • Strong knowledge of Entra ID and Microsoft cloud identity, including Conditional Access and privileged access controls.

  • Experience implementing and supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions, ideally with Veeam or Azure Site Recovery.

  • Previous involvement in vulnerability, patch and security management within an enterprise environment.

  • Experience securing corporate email using platforms such as Mimecast, Proofpoint or Microsoft Defender.

  • Familiarity with infrastructure and network monitoring solutions such as PRTG, SolarWinds or similar.

  • Experience supporting Hyper-V and/or wider cloud infrastructure.

  • Comfortable using PowerShell or similar scripting tools to automate tasks and improve efficiency.

  • Knowledge of security monitoring/SIEM technologies such as Microsoft Sentinel or Splunk would be beneficial.

  • Relevant technical certification such as CCNA or AZ-104 is essential.

  • AZ-500, AZ-700 or ITIL certification would be advantageous.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently on complex technical issues.
