3rd Line Network Engineer

Overview

In this role you will serve as a senior engineer within Core Services, diagnosing and resolving complex network incidents and supporting CSI and change work for key national security IT systems. You’ll handle 3rd line escalations, develop technical solutions, and liaise with stakeholders across levels to ensure SLA/KPI targets are met. The position emphasizes secure LAN/WAN operations, proactive maintenance, and involvement in infrastructure projects. Responsibilities
  • System support and ticket resolution to keep the Core Network estate online and within SLA
  • Problem resolution via root cause analysis with resolver groups, vendors, and users
  • Maintenance including periodic preventive maintenance and upgrades to mitigate obsolescence
  • Documentation of system configurations and changes
  • Resource movement: configuration, installation, and deployment of infrastructure components
  • Participation in infrastructure projects and change requests (CRs)
  • Ensuring proper incident and problem management alignment with ITIL ICT service delivery

Key requirements
  • Software Defined Networking experience with VMware NSX
  • In-depth Cisco Enterprise LAN experience at 3rd line level (deployment, admin, troubleshooting)
  • Security-focused LAN experience with clear boundary and ruleset management
  • Strong WAN understanding plus virtual/physical networking solutions including routing protocols
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of Layer 2/3 switching and routing
  • Experience configuring/troubleshooting VPC, VDC, STP, BGP, OSPF
  • Hands-on with firewalls (Sidewinders/ASAv, Fortigate, SonicWall, Palo Alto, ForcePoint, Juniper)
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and ability to work autonomously
  • Experience with ITIL ICT service delivery and high-pressure environments
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
