Our client, a boutique accounting firm supporting a diverse group of clients across the North Okanagan, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join their growing team.

As a key member, the Accounting Manager will deliver accounting, tax, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses and individuals. Reporting directly to the Partners, this role combines technical capability with client-facing leadership, managing engagements from planning through completion, mentoring staff, and building lasting client relationships. The successful candidate will bring a CPA designation, progressive public practice experience, and strong communication skills. This is a role for a collaborative team player who thrives on variety, takes pride in exceptional client service, and is looking to grow as a leader within a people-first firm.

THE ROLE

  • Lead, manage and assist with multiple client engagements in the planning, preparation and review of financial statements and T2 corporate tax return reviews for corporate year-ends.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of client projects, ensuring adherence to deadlines and quality standards.
  • Build strong client relationships by proactively identifying opportunities to enhance client satisfaction including on-boarding.
  • Assist with planning, preparation and review of T1 Personal Income Tax returns.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of T3 trust and estate services.
  • Assist with preparation of tax compliance work, CDA’s, Section 85 and tax planning.
  • Assist with review of bookkeeping, GST, information slips and summaries.
  • Perform income and other tax research.
  • Provide training and feedback to accounting and bookkeeping staff as necessary after review of work.
  • Liaise, as needed with clients.
  • Corresponding with taxation authorities on various matters, as necessary.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and ad hoc special projects, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years progressive work experience in a public practice firm working with various clients concurrently.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proven leadership and team motivation abilities, supported by 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, ASPE, ASNPO.).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards along with federal and provincial employment standards.
  • Proficiency in Income tax legislation, research and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Financial reporting, Finance, Strategy and governance, Management accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software, and various tax preparation software/programs such as Profile, Taxprep and familiarity with bookkeeping software.
  • Experience with CCH iFirm, Caseware/Caseview.
  • Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
  • High level of professionalism and courtesy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills combined with ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Works well independently and as a supportive team player working with all departments.
