General Bank of Canada is seeking an Accounting Policy and Reporting Manager to maintain the Bank’s accounting policy framework, lead technical accounting analysis, and support high-quality financial and regulatory reporting. In this role, you will apply your technical accounting expertise to complex transactions, new initiatives, and evolving reporting requirements. You will prepare well-supported accounting positions, help strengthen financial controls and reporting processes, and provide practical guidance to teams across the Bank. Working closely with Finance and Treasury leadership, Risk, Lending, Operations, Internal Audit, and External Audit, you will contribute to accurate reporting, sound accounting judgments, reliable accounting operations, and continuous improvement. You will also coordinate work and provide coaching and mentorship to accounting team members. Employment Type:

Accounting Policy and Technical Guidance

Develop, maintain, and periodically review the Bank’s accounting policy framework to keep it current with International Financial Reporting Standards, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions guidance, and the Bank’s evolving business activities. Research and analyze complex, judgmental, and non-routine accounting matters, including securitization and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation programs, loan sales and derecognition, derivatives and hedging, fair value, IFRS 9 expected credit loss, new products, and strategic initiatives. Prepare and maintain accounting position papers, technical memos, and supporting evidence for review by Finance leadership, auditors, and other internal and external partners. Provide practical accounting advice on the reporting implications of new transactions, products, systems, initiatives, and process changes. Financial and Regulatory Reporting

Support the preparation and review of annual and interim financial statements and note disclosures, with a focus on accuracy, consistency, transparency, and compliance. Oversee or support OSFI regulatory reporting processes and promote consistency across the general ledger, financial statements, regulatory returns, management reporting, and source data. Monitor new and amended IFRS standards, including IFRS 18, and relevant regulatory guidance. Assess the implications of accounting and regulatory changes and support implementation planning, policy updates, disclosure changes, and control enhancements. Accounting Operations and Controls

Support the timely completion of month-end and year-end close activities, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, variance explanations, and related financial reporting. Oversee selected recurring accounting processes, which may include general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking entries, cash-related processes, and other operational accounting activities. Help ensure accounting responsibilities are clearly assigned, appropriately reviewed, and completed in accordance with Bank policies and procedures. Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, including effective review evidence, reconciliations, documentation standards, and audit-ready support for significant accounting judgments and reporting processes. Audit and Assurance Support

Support internal and external audits by coordinating requests, preparing high-quality working papers, and responding to technical accounting questions. Maintain clear, complete, and accessible documentation supporting accounting conclusions, recurring processes, reconciliations, and reporting outputs. Ensure timely follow-up on audit findings, recommendations, and required improvements. Process Improvement and Special Projects

Identify and implement improvements across financial reporting, accounting policy, regulatory reporting, and control activities. Explore opportunities to strengthen reporting through technology, automation, and improved data governance. Lead or support projects involving new accounting standards, regulatory changes, system implementations, finance transformation, business growth, and reporting-control enhancements. Team Coordination and Collaboration

Coordinate accounting activities and help team members balance recurring responsibilities, reporting deadlines, project work, and emerging priorities. Provide coaching, technical guidance, and mentorship to accounting staff, supporting professional development, accountability, and consistent work practices. Build effective working relationships across Finance, Treasury, Risk, Lending, Operations, Technology, Internal Audit, and External Audit. Promote a collaborative environment focused on technical discipline, dependable reporting, and continuous improvement. What You Bring to the Table

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field. At least seven years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, audit, accounting advisory, or regulatory reporting. Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, including experience interpreting accounting standards, conducting technical analysis, and documenting accounting conclusions. Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements, note disclosures, working papers, reconciliations, and audit evidence. Experience overseeing month-end close activities, journal-entry reviews, account reconciliations, and recurring operational accounting processes. Knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting and the documentation required to support management review, audits, and regulatory reporting. Experience using financial systems, general ledger platforms, reporting tools, and advanced Excel. Proven ability to lead initiatives, coordinate work, or manage technical reporting processes. Strong analytical, organizational, written communication, and relationship-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment in a regulated banking environment. Ability to explain complex technical matters clearly and practically to colleagues, leaders, auditors, and other business partners. Demonstrated discretion, integrity, and professionalism when handling sensitive financial, business, and employee information. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in banking, lending, securitization, regulated financial services, or a public accounting or advisory role serving financial institution clients. Experience drafting accounting policies, accounting position papers, technical memos, or financial statement disclosure assessments. Experience with OSFI regulatory reporting, financial institution reporting requirements, or regulatory change implementation. Experience with IFRS 9 financial instruments, expected credit loss, fair value, derecognition, securitization, derivatives, or hedge accounting. Experience supporting financial systems, reporting automation, process improvement, or finance transformation initiatives. Summary
