Accounts Payable / Payroll Clerk

Location: Hamilton, ON - In-person. Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000.

Our client is a well-established construction company in Hamilton, Ontario, known for delivering high-quality projects across the region. Their team values professionalism, accountability and teamwork, and they are growing their accounting department.

They are looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Payable / Payroll Clerk to join that team and take ownership of payables and payroll for the organization. This is a newly created opportunity on a team that works closely together and supports one another, with room to grow as the company and its accounting function continue to expand.

Responsibilities

  • Process and verify supplier invoices, purchase orders and subcontractor statements
  • Prepare, review and run bi-weekly payroll for employees and subcontractors
  • Manage payroll deductions and government remittances, including CPP, EI, WSIB and EHT
  • Prepare year-end T4 and T4A filings
  • Reconcile accounts payable sub-ledgers and resolve vendor discrepancies
  • Maintain vendor files and keep payment runs on schedule
  • Support month-end and year-end closing with reconciliations and reporting
  • Assist with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in accounts payable and/or payroll; construction industry experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll compliance and regulations
  • Proficiency with accounting/payroll software such as Sage 300, Sage 50, ADP or Ceridian
  • Strong MS Excel skills, including pivot tables and reconciliations
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
