AI Security Research Engineer Intern

Apply Python and artificial intelligence skills at American Express as a Master’s-level AI Security Research Engineer Intern. Explore cybersecurity through hands-on research and prototypes.

This 16-week Summer Internship Program places you within Enterprise Technology Services and its AI Security Research team. You will investigate emerging technologies, build proof-of-concepts, and evaluate technical approaches. Graduate coursework or research experience supports work across AI security, generative AI, cybersecurity, and software engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research emerging artificial intelligence and cybersecurity technologies
• Build prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and security test harnesses
• Develop AI agents, LLM integrations, and automated workflows
• Design experiments, benchmarks, and controlled technical evaluations
• Document findings and present recommendations to stakeholders

Requirements:

• Current full-time enrollment in a related Master’s degree
• Graduation aligned with the 2027 internship eligibility window
• Strong programming experience, preferably using Python
• Understanding of algorithms, APIs, testing, and version control
• Graduate-level knowledge of AI, machine learning, or cybersecurity
