Overview

As a Data Engineer at Sainsbury's Tech, you will design, build and operate data pipelines that enable data-driven products across our multi-brand retail platform. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable data availability and scalable processing at scale. You will collaborate with Data Modellers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Architects and Product Managers to deliver world-class data products. You will apply best practices in observability, governance and security to production systems, while embracing continuous improvement and new technologies. Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with data squads to ensure data availability for product teams
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines (CI/CD)
  • Automate end-to-end workflow from ingestion to deployment and monitoring
  • Optimize model serving infrastructure for latency, scalability, and cost
  • Build infrastructure to monitor model performance, data drift and key production metrics
  • Collaborate with Developers and MLOps to ensure pipelines are production-ready
  • Implement security, compliance, and governance practices
  • Support troubleshooting and incident response for deployed systems
  • Mentor colleagues and share learnings
  • Partner with Data Modellers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Architects and Product Managers to deliver data products
Key requirements
  • Strong SQL skills; experience with Snowflake and DBT
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience with Docker and orchestration tools like Airflow or Astronomer
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like GitHub Actions
  • Experience with data quality and observability platforms (e.g. Soda.io, BigEye)
  • Understanding of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., NewRelic, Grafana)
