Analytics & Modeling Analyst, Coastal Flood

In this role you will help advance storm surge and coastal hazard models used to assess financial risk from coastal flooding. You will work within a multidisciplinary Model Development team to build, calibrate, and validate hazard and loss models, translating complex coastal dynamics into actionable risk insights. You will communicate research findings to clients and stakeholders, shaping tools that support decision-making for coastal resilience. You will join Moody's RMS to contribute to rigorous, ethical AI-enabled risk assessment and model development.
Responsibilities- Build storm surge, wave, and coastal defence model components
- Calibrate and validate model results against observations and benchmarks (hazard and loss)
- Advance models through applied research and novel techniques
- Communicate research outcomes to clients and stakeholders
- PhD in coastal oceanography (or related field)
- Experience with coastal dynamics/oceanography/ocean engineering
- Background in UNIX/Linux environments and high-performance computing
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages (Python, R, Fortran)
- Familiarity with numerical models and large data sets
- Experience with or interest in machine learning methods is advantageous
- Experience with GitHub or similar code management tools is advantageous
- Demonstrated understanding of AI concepts and responsible AI use
- Strong analytical communication

- Ability to translate complex results for non-technical stakeholders
- UNIX/Linux HPC experience
- Numerical and statistical modelling for coastal/ocean systems
