Android Engineer

As an Android-focused software engineer, you will build and enhance native mobile experiences for Economist Group products. You’ll work in a collaborative, remote-first environment with engineers across disciplines to deliver reliable features and improve app quality. You will contribute to architecture, code quality, testing, and end-to-end functionality with backend APIs. This role offers growth in Kotlin-based development and exposure to modern Android frameworks. You’ll help shape consumer experiences for a global audience while aligning with the company’s digital-first mission.

• Develop and maintain Android applications using Kotlin and modern frameworks
• Collaborate with Product and Design to build UI and features
• Contribute to application architecture and code quality within the team
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Debug issues and optimize performance and stability
• Participate in code reviews and team engineering practices
• Work with backend services and APIs to deliver end-to-end functionality
• Support testing, release, and CI/CD processes

• Experience in Android development
• Proficiency in Kotlin and familiarity with Android frameworks (e.g. Jetpack Compose, Android SDK)
• Experience building and shipping mobile applications
• Understanding of mobile development fundamentals, including UI patterns and performance considerations
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating backend services
• Exposure to testing practices and CI/CD workflows
• Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
