Overview

As a Backend Engineer at Motorway, you will develop and optimise JavaScript-based features, while ensuring scalable performance on our growing platform. You’ll work closely with product and design teams in a flat, collaborative environment to deliver reliable code and high-quality user experiences. You’ll contribute to performance improvements, caching, and AWS-backed operations to support rapid growth. This role offers an opportunity to shape a cutting-edge vehicle transaction platform and drive impact across the business.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain JavaScript code for new features and performance optimisation
  • Improve performance and caching as the platform scales
  • Build maintainable, reusable, and reliable code
  • Work with AWS infrastructure to ensure high performance, monitoring, and alerting
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver excellent user experiences
  • Contribute to technical and product strategy in a flat development team
  • Implement software development best practices, including testing and code reviews
Key requirements
  • Commercial experience with JavaScript including ES6/7
  • Experience with Node.js and frameworks (Express, Sequelize)
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of web design patterns
