Application Architect

As an Application Architect, you will shape and lead the architecture of strategic initiatives across Fourth, working embedded within delivery teams. You’ll provide hands-on architectural guidance to build scalable, secure, and maintainable software, aligning with architectural standards while evolving them through delivery experience. You will collaborate across business, product, engineering, and architecture teams to translate requirements into high-quality solutions and to advance AI-enabled engineering practices.

• Deliver the architectural direction for strategic projects ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability
• Provide hands-on architectural leadership within delivery teams from concept to delivery
• Evolve and apply Fourth's architecture standards, patterns, and principles
• Create architectural designs, decision records, and technical documentation
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews to ensure consistency with principles
• Collaborate with business, product, and engineering to translate requirements into practical solutions
• Own the architectural direction of assigned initiatives balancing business and technical goals
• Identify risks and debt and develop remediation plans with engineering teams
• Design and evolve AI-assisted engineering practices, tooling, and delivery pipelines
• Use AI-assisted tools to prototype, validate, and deliver architectural solutions
• Research and recommend new technologies and architectural approaches
• Champion AI adoption to enhance capabilities and productivity
• Share knowledge and mentor engineers to improve architecture practices

• Demonstrable hands-on experience in application/software architecture and engineering
• Strong knowledge of design patterns and architectural styles (microservices, event-driven, layered)
• Experience with modern application frameworks and technologies
• Experience with API design, microservices, and distributed systems
• Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills with ability to document complex solutions
• Ability to lead and manage projects and teams in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages
• Solid understanding of the end-to-end Software Development Lifecycle
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure) and their services
• Awareness of or hands-on experience with AI tools and their application in software development and productivity
