Overview

As a Senior Technical Leader in the Application Support Team, you will own and improve a large, diverse application estate across Windows, Linux, Azure and SaaS. You’ll set technical standards, drive service excellence, and mentor colleagues while coordinating across stakeholders to deliver resilient, high-availability services. You will lead onboarding of complex applications and guide the team through lifecycle management, incident response, and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to shape enterprise applications in a research-driven university environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design, integrate, administer and manage enterprise applications across Windows/UNIX/UNIX-like systems, cloud and on-premises
  • Administer and maintain application databases (SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB) ensuring data integrity and performance
  • Develop new functionality and applications using a mix of tools and methodologies
  • Lead business analysis and procurement support for tenders and vendor engagements
  • Gather requirements and design IT solutions to meet needs with resilience and disaster recovery testing
  • Maintain knowledge of systems to support incident management, root cause analysis and continual service improvement
  • Strengthen cyber security posture by implementing relevant security technologies and practices
  • Provide senior SME guidance, lead change delivery and contribute to future IT strategy
  • Act as deputy to the team manager when required and coach other team members
  • Engage with stakeholders across NUIT and the University to align IT with business needs
  • Lead project or change activities within wider NU/NUIT project teams
  • Develop and promote best-practice policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as allocated by the line manager
Key requirements
  • Extensive technical background across Windows, UNIX/UNIX-like, Azure, SaaS, and hybrid delivery
  • Experience of supporting in a similarly sized, complex and geographically diverse organization
  • Experience working with third-party vendors to deliver Platforms & Services
  • Interest in adopting new technologies to improve quality and value
  • Experience coordinating multiple support and resolver groups across technologies
  • Strong customer focus and ability to communicate complex topics to non-technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity processes and governance requirements
  • Bachelor or equivalent in technical field or experience
  • Ability to work within ITIL frameworks and governance structures
