DEPARTMENT: APPLICATION SUPPORT SERVICES
General Accountability
Reporting to the Manager, Application Services, the Application Support Technologist provides services in support of PRIME-BC Enterprise Applications, including monitoring performance; investigating and resolving complex software and/or hardware technical problems; implementing changes to applications, configuring equipment; conducting testing; and performing routine systems administration tasks.
Nature and Scope
Maintains province-wide enterprise applications including the record management system, computer aided dispatch system, and biometrics systems (amongst others) used by BC's police agencies.
Investigates, troubleshoots, assesses and resolves complex software and/or hardware technical problems, monitors system performance and interprets and responds to status and alarm indicators.
Receives and records software and/or hardware problems reported by users; triages reported issues and works with subject matter experts from within PRIMECorp, police agencies, technical service providers and vendors to resolve issues.
Updates support documentation and records resolutions.
Performs routine systems administration tasks such as adding and deleting users, assigning security rights and providing systems access.
Participates in and contributes expertise to discussions regarding the development, alteration or refinement of system capabilities to better meet user needs; assists with the coordination and implementation of technical enhancements.
Applies application changes such as patches, configuration, additional modules and maintenance, and tests for proper functionality and acceptability.
Configures and tests equipment such as mobile devices to enable and ensure proper functionality.
Assists in and/or prepares procedures, guidelines and training material; as well as provides training and resources to staff where able.
Performs related work as required or assigned by the Manager, Application Services.
Education, Training and Experience
- Must have successfully completed a degree or diploma program in computer science, computer technology or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Must have three (3) years' experience working as an IT technician or software support technician or application specialist or similar experience.
Assets
ITIL certification, knowledge of databases, Jira, Confluence, Sharepoint, Cherwell.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of provincial and federal government rules and standards regarding information policy as they relate to the management of sensitive information and records.
- Knowledge of enterprise system applications, methods, practices and procedures related to system operation, maintenance and administration.
- Knowledge of IT troubleshooting principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of application, computer and communications technology as it relates to the work performed. (ITSM applications, Microsoft suite of products, performance monitoring tools).
- Ability to investigate and resolve a wide variety of software problems and to provide assistance to end users.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and other documentation related to the work.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Must obtain and maintain a RCMP Secret Level security clearance.
- Hybrid work environment - remote and in-office.
- Must reside in the Lower Mainland.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Monday to Friday 40 hours per week.
- Occasional availability to work outside of regular working hours.
- Required to be on-call (evenings, statutory holidays and weekends), on a rotational basis.
