In this role you will design and prototype manufacturable tooling for coil winding applications, bridging concept and trial. You will work within a hands-on engineering environment that serves high-tech sectors, applying CAD-driven design, prototyping, and practical troubleshooting. You’ll collaborate with customers to translate requirements into tangible tooling solutions and support the wider manufacturing and test processes. This position emphasizes end-to-end problem solving, continuous improvement, and delivering reliable, ready-to-use tooling and guidance.
Responsibilities- Design tooling and work holdings for coil winding bobbins using CAD and engineer drawings
- Create prototype tooling and fixtures with workshop machinery (lathe, mill, grinder)
- Utilize CAD data for in-house 3D printing to produce temporary tooling and prototypes
- Run trials on materials, assess results, and adjust tooling and machine setups
- Perform basic electrical work as part of machine modifications
- Evaluate components to choose appropriate machine and tooling approaches
- Conduct trials, test varied materials and customer samples
- Provide technical support to customers and conduct occasional site visits
- Strong mechanical engineering foundation with demonstrable use of toolroom equipment
- Ability to read technical drawings and translate 2D/3D designs into manufacturable outputs
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and safe component swaps
- Willingness to disassemble and reassemble machines with minimal guidance
- Ability to work independently to solve design problems and manufacture components from aluminium and mild steel
