Applications Engineer - Bel Engineering

As an Applications Engineer, you will support and optimise CNC machining processes, minimising production downtime, enhancing efficiency and maintaining high-quality standards. The role will apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to develop and implement advanced CNC solutions tailored to customer requirements.

What you'll be doing

• Identify and implement improvements in CNC machining to enhance production efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Develop and optimise CNC programmes to ensure precision, efficiency and quality.
• Evaluate and integrate new CNC technologies and tooling to improve existing processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve CNC machining issues with minimal disruption to production.
• Support Quality Control by transferring manufacturing process knowledge into the inspection process.
• Prepare CNC programmes, technical specifications, process guidelines and other technical documentation.
• Provide technical support and training to machine operators on CNC setup and operation.
• Work collaboratively with manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, production staff and tooling partners.
• Identify opportunities for process enhancement and cost reduction in support of continuous improvement.
• Support software development and system improvements, while keeping up to date with CNC technology advancements.
• Provide hands-on support to resolve machining and production issues in a timely manner.
• Communicate improvement opportunities to the engineering team responsible for the original manufacturing process.
• Manage multiple projects, work across multiple sites and support assembly operations to meet customer specifications.
• Ensure CNC processes meet quality standards, industry regulations and safe working practices.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have a strong background in CNC machining and process optimisation, with hands‑on experience in CNC programming, tooling selection and machine setup. They will be able to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and CMM reports, demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing process planning and multiple machining disciplines, and analyse machining challenges to implement effective solutions. Experience of offline programming would be advantageous, although training will be provided. They will be self‑motivated, organised and efficient, with a practical, proactive approach and strong problem‑solving skills.

They will be an enthusiastic team player who builds productive relationships, communicates effectively and is supportive of colleagues. The successful candidate will be honest, conscientious and dependable, committed to safe working, open to learning and sharing knowledge, and capable of managing multiple priorities. They will hold a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering or manufacturing discipline.
