Applications & Systems Developer

£35,000 per annum | Permanent | Hybrid - North Wales

Instinct is supporting an organisation within the higher education sector with the recruitment of an Applications & Systems Developer to join its Information Services team.

This is a varied technical role combining application development, database work, systems support and wider IT projects . It would suit someone who enjoys having a broad remit rather than working exclusively in either software development or traditional IT support.

You'll work across a range of business-critical systems and applications, helping resolve technical issues, develop and implement improvements, support integrations and contribute to new technology projects.

Initially, there will be an element of reactive systems support and problem-solving. As you become established within the team, the aim is for you to take an increasingly proactive role in identifying improvements and helping develop the organisation's wider systems environment.

What you'll be doing

• Developing, maintaining and improving internal applications and business systems.
• Working with databases, integrations and web-based technologies.
• Investigating technical issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Developing new functionality and enhancing existing systems.
• Working with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
• Testing and deploying developments, fixes and system enhancements.
• Supporting the reliability, security and integrity of applications and data.
• Contributing to wider IT projects and new system initiatives.
• Explaining technical issues and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.

We're particularly interested in people who can bring a combination of development and applications/systems support experience .

Ideally, you'll have:

• Experience developing, supporting and maintaining applications, databases and/or system integrations.
• Development experience using technologies including C#, PHP and web technologies .
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving application or systems issues.
• Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to communicate technical concepts in straightforward language.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to working within an IT environment.

This is a permanent, full-time position paying £35,000 per annum.

The role is based in North Wales , with hybrid working and an average expectation of approximately two days per week onsite . Candidates should therefore be within a realistic commuting distance of North Wales or willing to travel to the site regularly.
