In this Associate role, you will provide technical leadership for civil engineering design across UK and international projects, guiding delivery to quality, time, and budget. You will mentor junior staff, lead multi-disciplinary design efforts, and help shape development initiatives through client relationships and tender activity. You’ll oversee project direction, resources, and commercial performance while fostering a culture of technical excellence. Responsibilities
  • Technical leadership of civil engineering design projects (UK and overseas)
  • Act as Project Director/Project Manager on diverse projects with multi-disciplinary inputs
  • Resource and people management at project level
  • Agreeing fees and managing project commercial position
  • Leading technical review and challenge culture
  • Developing client relationships for sustainable, future-proof developments
  • Leading/contributing to tenders and bids
  • Supervision and mentoring of junior team members
  • Support lead of the Region and local Office Place Lead with leadership and business development
  • Collaborate with Development, Planning and Development teams and wider WSP to achieve goals
Key requirements
  • BEng / BSc (Hon) in Civil Engineering or relevant qualification
  • Chartered/Incorporated qualification (desirable)
  • Broad project experience in civil engineering and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Drainage, utilities and highway engineering experience
  • Proven project management and financial control experience
  • Commercial and strategic capability with track record of new business opportunities
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management abilities
  • Stakeholder management and relationship skills
  • Ability to lead change and mentor talent
  • Effective presentation and workshop facilitation skills
  • Ability to build professional relationships internally and externally
