What is the opportunity?

As an Associate Director, Lead Software Developer, you will join a highly talented engineering team that develops & maintains high-availability low-latency real-time systems in the Fixed Income Cash/Derivatives trading space in RBC Capital Markets. You will work on exciting projects that include building new and enhancing the existing trading systems across trade booking, execution, and post-trade workflows.

What will you do?

  • Contribute to the overall design and development of RBC’s Cash trade management systems.
  • Lead and mentor other developers to elevate the entire team’s skillset and mind-set.
  • Collaborate closely with product owner, business analysts as well as business users including sales and trading to understand needs and translate them into software solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the currency flows in RBC, challenge status quo and proactively suggest strategic solutions.
  • Set high development standards by developing high-performant, reusable, reliable and scalable systems.
  • Provide Level 2 support as needed.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Must-have: 8+ years’ experience in designing and developing distributed systems (multi-threaded, low latency Java based systems is a MUST).
  • 5+ years’ hands on experience in designing and developing applications using Java 17 or later with Spring framework Business knowledge of Capital Markets areas previously supported (any asset class).
  • Good knowledge of relational databases and any messaging technology ( e.g. Kafka/Solace/IBM MQ).
  • Solid knowledge of any modern caching technology like Redis, Apache ignite.
  • Knack for writing clean, readable java code with automated unit and integration tests.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and provide timely updates.
  • DevOps experience with continuous integration/delivery best-practices, technologies and tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, artifactory, JIRA, Confluence, Ansible, SonarQube.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience using AI tools like GitHub copilot and Windsurf for development tasks.
  • Understanding of the trade lifecycle (order execution* settlement)
  • Experience with ‘Agile’ style development methods
  • Experience with market data integrations (Bloomberg, Refinitiv)
  • Exposure to pricing, risk (Greeks), or real-time P&L
  • Experience with containerization and cloud tech (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
