Associate Electrical Director: Data Centres

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical design and power systems for data centre projects, guiding technical delivery and mentoring teams. You will shape power architectures, coordinate cross-disciplinary interfaces, and drive decarbonization and energy-efficiency outcomes for clients. You’ll work with global colleagues in the Data Centre sector to win work and deliver resilient, low-carbon solutions. This is a senior, strategic position within a growing technology/data centre practice with a strong client-facing component.

Responsibilities
  • Own electrical design across feasibility, concept, scheme and detailed design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
  • Define and validate power architectures (utility intake, MV/LV distribution, UPS topologies, generators, switchgear, PDUs, STS, busway, earthing, and lighting)
  • Lead power systems studies and protection design (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, harmonic analysis) using ETAP/SKM
  • Integrate monitoring and controls (BMS/EPMS/SCADA), metering strategies and resilience features aligned to availability objectives (Tier II–IV)
  • Embed decarbonization and energy efficiency (high-efficiency UPS, advanced controls, heat recovery, demand response, on-site renewables, grid-interactive strategies)
  • Assure compliance with applicable standards and codes (IEC/BS/EN and/or NEC/NFPA), client specifications, and AECOM quality procedures
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary interfaces (mechanical, structural, architectural, fire/life safety, security, ICT) to deliver integrated designs
Key requirements
  • Hyperscale and/or multi-site program experience
  • Strong background in delivery of Electrical project work across Data Centres and Mission Critical Environments
  • Proven experience leading DC project work streams in UK and across EMEA
  • Demonstrable client facing and work winning experience
  • Excellent team leadership and development capability
  • Detailed knowledge of Mechanical design for Data Centres and interfacing with client
  • Strong commercial acumen and project financial management
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
