Overview

In this hands-on leadership role, you will build and lead a Cardiff-based embedded engineering team delivering next-generation desktop and embedded readers built on a common platform with PACS. You’ll drive technical direction, Scrum Master duties, and cross-organisation collaboration to extend the platform while meeting IDT-specific needs. You will recruit, mentor, and develop engineers, shaping architecture decisions that define the reader portfolio for years. This role combines people leadership with hands-on engineering impact in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and recruit a new embedded team in Cardiff, including onboarding and career development
  • Provide technical direction, code/design reviews, and maintain coding standards
  • Drive cross-organisational collaboration with PACS, translating product needs into platform backlog
  • Own delivery of incremental features for IDT desktop and embedded readers on the common platform
  • Serve as Scrum Master and collaborate with Product Owner on backlog and sprint goals
  • Define test and CI strategy, embed SSDLC, and ensure secure development practices
  • Coordinate work with engineers from Krakow, Chennai and La Ciotat and manage interfaces
  • Communicate delivery status to stakeholders and escalate risks early
Key requirements
  • 7+ years of embedded software development experience
  • Strong C proficiency for resource-constrained systems
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M and an RTOS (Zephyr preferred)
  • Leadership experience mentoring or guiding teams
  • Ability to operate in a matrix organisation and represent a business unit
  • Fluent with git-based version control, unit testing, and CI/CD
  • Understanding of hardware design and bring-up processes
  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban)
