Associate Platform Engineer will have hands‑on experience in application design, development, and operations that leverage technologies such as React, Node JS, Java8, RESTful services, and Microservices.
Event Exchange is an enterprise grade platform providing event management for bank events that will be used by applications, services, and systems across Scotia Bank. It allows external applications to produce data, ingests data from existing sources, and makes that data available to external consumers in a safe and secure manner, driving reuse, scalability, and data availability.
The incumbent should be a quick learner and adept at troubleshooting and problem solving in a highly integrated cloud environment. Experience with continuous integration and deployment methodology is an asset.
The individual is comfortable working with business and technical staff, ensuring systems are designed and maintained according to enterprise architectural standards. Collaborating with team members, they will utilize agile best practices and metrics to build high‑quality technology solutions in line with the product’s vision.
It is essential that the incumbent is proactive, eager to learn, has a 'Can Do' attitude, and demonstrates initiative and eagerness to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Champion a customer‑focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Provide system analysis, object‑oriented design/programming, technical documentation, and support for existing and new applications and systems.
- Provide recommendations on best practices and enhancements that are in line with the bank’s technology roadmap.
- Work with the project team to refine technical requirements and provide technical design and guidance based on industry best practices.
- Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, documenting, and implementing of applications and scripts.
- Participate in estimation and planning of development efforts required for various projects and enhancements.
- Maintain, support, and enhance existing applications and participate in regular code reviews for release activities.
- Lead the implementation efforts for code to non‑production and production environments.
- Participate in production issue analysis and perform root cause analysis of production issues and implementation issues.
- Assist product owners and business analysts in discovering the current system behavior and provide recommendations on improving the current system.
- Understand how the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, its Code of Conduct, champion a high‑performance environment, and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications
- Frontend development background in building web applications using technologies such as ReactJS, NodeJS, NextJS, and modern JavaScript toolsets (SonarQube, CheckMarx, Web Inspect) and knowledge of HTML/CSS.
- Must have technical working experience with Core Java (Version8 or higher)/Java, JDK17+.
- Basic understanding of Spring framework – Spring Boot and Kafka.
- Familiarity with SOAP/REST, IntelliJ or Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
- Familiarity with GIT, Bitbucket, Gradle, Maven, Jira, Confluence, or similar tooling for building CI/CD pipelines.
- Basic understanding of Google Cloud and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with an agile environment. Collaboration tools – JIRA, Confluence.
- Customer‑first mindset while providing technology solutions to business problems.
- English proficiency. Good communicator – written and oral as the role involves interactions with stakeholders.
- Excellent team player with experience working in an agile environment.
- Good organizational skills, excellent problem‑solving.
- Must be flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment.
- Must be reliable, proactive, results‑oriented, customer‑focused, and attentive to details.
- Minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline.
