Automation and Control Engineer

In this role you will keep Diageo’s Belfast packaging site’s automated equipment running safely, reliably and efficiently. You’ll maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot control systems, collaborating with operators and suppliers to minimize downtime and improve performance. You’ll support new equipment installations and commissioning while upholding safety, quality and continuous improvement across the site. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role at a world‑leading drinks company with a strong focus on reliability and process excellence.

• Keep automated machines and control systems running; respond to breakdowns
• Prevent issues via maintenance, checks and proactive problem-solving
• Improve machine performance to reduce downtime, waste and inefficiency
• Support new equipment installations, upgrades and commissioning
• Ensure automation systems are safe and compliant with standards
• Act as a technical expert, coaching and sharing knowledge with others

• Recognised Electrical or Electronic apprenticeship and/or an Electrical/Electronic/Automations qualification
• Extensive experience on inverter drives and Siemens PLCs (S5/S7/Tia Portal) and Scada systems
• Good understanding of industrial communications protocols and network infrastructure
• Experience with automation and control systems in fast-paced production
• Strong problem-solving skills and fault diagnosis abilities
• Solid safety, risk assessment and safe working practices knowledge
• Ability to collaborate with engineers, operators and external suppliers
• Proactive mindset with focus on continuous improvement and reliability
• Good communication skills and willingness to share knowledge
