AWS Devops Engineer

In this role you will design, implement and support secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for the LCST Programme, applying SAFe Agile DevSecOps practices. You’ll automate delivery across environments using AWS and IaC, with hands-on work in testing, deployments and monitoring. You’ll collaborate across systems engineering, software development, testing and security to deliver resilient cloud solutions that support the UK MoD’s defence supply chain. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position focused on continuous improvement and cross-functional delivery.

• Manage source code with GIT including PRs, branches and collaborative workflows
• Design and manage AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, ECR, ECS, ECK, ASG, VPC, RDS, Load Balancers, Lambda, IAM, R53)
• Use Terraform and Ansible for IaC to provision and secure environments
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins for multi-environment deployments
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python, PowerShell)
• Work with Docker and orchestration, and use Ansible for config management
• Implement secrets management with Vault and IAM policies
• Follow AWS security best practices (encryption, patching, least privilege, compliance)
• Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
• Implement monitoring/logging with CloudWatch for observability and incident response
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and translate requirements into technical solutions
• Design scalable, resilient, cost-effective cloud-native solutions
• Troubleshoot complex environments and identify root causes
• Configure routing, traffic management and load balancing (NGINX, AWS tools)
• Follow release/change management processes, governance and versioning
• Support Java application environments and platform integrations
• Identify opportunities for delivery pipeline and infrastructure improvements
• Design and manage SNS topics for event-driven architectures with Lambda or external systems
• Use Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) for Agile delivery and CI/CD management
• Have knowledge of Active Directory/ADFS for identity and access management
• Provide hands-on experience in programming (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
• Experience with Red Hat OS and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and containerised solutions
• IAC using Terraform, App config with Ansible or similar tools
• CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps or Bamboo
• Any automation
