Back End Engineer

I’m working with a well-backed, fast-growing scale-up in the automotive and consumer-finance space. They help customers find, finance and drive their next vehicle. They’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build highly scalable services that sit at the heart of their platform.

The role

You’ll be hands-on in building and evolving backend services. You’ll turn complex business needs into robust technical designs and high-level architecture. You’ll work closely with Product, Design and Sales, and you’ll have real influence over the tools and techniques the team uses.

What you’ll do

• Build highly scalable, maintainable backend services
• Shape architecture and technical design for complex business problems
• Suggest new tools, frameworks and approaches where they add value
• Share ideas through code and design reviews, pair programming and presentations
• Help improve the team’s Agile ways of working
• Provide technical leadership and mentor developing engineers

What you’ll bring

• Strong commercial experience building scalable backend services in Python (any framework)
• Solid understanding of databases, OO design, data structures, distributed systems and SOLID principles
• A problem-solving mindset and a drive to improve how teams work
• The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues
• A collaborative approach with engineers and business stakeholders
