Overview

As Back End Tech Lead for the Funnel Platform, you will own and evolve the shared backend services and frameworks used by iwoca engineers. You’ll shape the platform roadmap, drive technical strategy, and ensure robust, scalable systems that enable faster delivery for partner teams. You’ll lead a team, mentor engineers, and maintain high standards for quality, testing, and performance. This role blends hands-on coding with strategic leadership to reduce friction and improve developer experience at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development of shared frameworks and services used by other engineering teams
  • Own platform roadmap and translate long-term vision into robust systems
  • Provide direct line management and coaching to the Funnel Platform engineers
  • Review and approve contributions from partner teams to maintain consistency and quality
  • Collaborate with commercial funnel stakeholders to align on a shared roadmap
  • Ensure health and reliability of shared services and prevent conflicts between maintenance and delivery
  • Define and champion engineering best practices across the team and wider organization
  • Shape architectural improvements focused on developer experience and service health
Key requirements
  • Experience developing and owning shared back end services used by multiple teams
  • Experience building and shaping distributed systems in complex business domains
  • Advanced proficiency in software development
  • Ability to challenge assumptions with cross-disciplinary partners
  • Demonstrated leadership with mentoring juniors and delivering cross-functional projects
  • Experience using AI tools in daily workflow to reduce boilerplate and focus on complex architecture
