Backend Engineer

As Staff Software Engineer, you will design and build scalable backend systems for data-driven platforms at the forefront of engineering. You’ll work hands-on to shape architecture and contribute to production-grade delivery, focusing on high-performance, distributed systems. You will apply AI-enabled workflows to accelerate development and improve developer productivity. You’ll collaborate across teams to deliver robust platforms, with ownership over technical direction and architecture.

• Design and develop scalable backend systems using Java/Kotlin
• Build and optimise event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar)
• Hands-on performance, reliability, and scalability improvements
• Contribute to system design and technical direction at Staff level
• Utilise AI tools (e.g. LLMs, Copilot) to enhance coding and delivery
• Collaborate across teams to deliver robust production-grade platforms

• Staff Engineer level experience or equivalent
• Strong system design and distributed systems experience
• Hands-on experience with Java / Kotlin
• Experience in microservices
• Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka)
• Experience building high-scale, data-heavy systems
