Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer at First Orion, you will own core microservices that power call treatment orchestration, brand data, analytics, and billing. You’ll work in a hexagonal, event-driven platform to deliver scalable, carrier-grade solutions with cross-regional teams. This hands-on role emphasizes reliability, maintainability, and collaboration in a distributed environment. You’ll shape backend architecture and influence technical decisions in a mission to restore trust in phone communications.

• Build, enhance, and own core microservices across the platform
• Develop services for call treatment orchestration, brand data, analytics, and billing
• Design and implement hexagonal and event-driven patterns
• Develop scalable backend services using Java 21 and Spring Boot
• Work with PostgreSQL, caching, Redis, and Kafka
• Contribute to design decisions and improve reliability and maintainability
• Troubleshoot issues across the development lifecycle
• Collaborate with distributed engineering teams

• 5+ years of backend or software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java 21
• Experience building services with Spring Boot
• Experience with Gradle using Kotlin DSL
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience with Redis and Kafka
• Understanding of microservice and event-driven architecture
• Experience designing, building, testing, and supporting production services
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative, distributed environment
