Backend Engineer - Media Streaming

In this role, you will help operate SoundCloud’s media streaming platform at global scale, delivering top-tier audio experiences to creators and listeners. You’ll join the Media Streaming Team and work closely with mobile, web, and backend engineers to build reliable, scalable services. You’ll tackle cross-system debugging and contribute to architecture, code reviews, and roadmaps to improve performance and resilience. You’ll be on-call to ensure availability and join a culture focused on collaboration and continuous delivery. • Build, scale, and maintain backend APIs and services serving millions of users
• Collaborate with Android, iOS, web, and full-stack engineers for end-to-end media experiences
• Ensure performance, scalability, and maintainability of SoundCloud services
• Debug complex cross-system issues to ensure a consistent global user experience
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and roadmap planning
• On-call rotation to maintain reliability and availability

• 4+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend or distributed systems
• Proficiency in Go
• Terraform IaC experience
• Experience with cloud-native environments (AWS or GCP)
• Experience with microservices, SQL/NoSQL databases, and containers
• Strong focus on software craftsmanship: continuous delivery, defensive programming, automated testing, clean code
• Ownership mindset and ability to navigate ambiguity in fast-moving environments
