Backend Engineer - Platform - Stacks | UK | Remote

As a Backend Engineer on the AppCore Stacks squad, you’ll help build and operate Grafana Cloud stacks at scale, aligning configuration, migrations, and lifecycle across Grafana services. You’ll work at the intersection of product, platform, and operations to keep stack state reliable and observable, enabling smooth customer experiences. Your work supports both SaaS provisioning and customer lifecycle in a globally distributed, remote-first environment. This role offers ownership of critical systems and the opportunity to shape the technical direction of Grafana Cloud.

• Design, build, and operate reconciliation systems to track and repair drift in stack state
• Collaborate across SSS, grafana.com, and deployment configurations to keep stack lifecycles reliable
• Improve deployment efficiency and contribute to stack config reconciliation initiatives
• Manage rollout mechanisms for plugins, dashboards, data sources, Grafana versions, and stack configuration
• Support region and cluster rollouts, ensuring safe online activation in new Grafana Cloud regions
• Improve incident response and recovery for stack misalignment and related issues
• Partner with Product, Hosted Grafana, Infrastructure, Support, and adjacent squads on stack lifecycle work
• Contribute to roadmap planning, design, OnCall improvements, and long-term simplification of stack operations
• Own production behavior of built systems, including runbooks, dashboards, alerts, and recovery procedures

• At least 1 year of fully remote work experience
• Experience on a SaaS platform with distributed systems concepts (scalability, multi-tenancy, HA)
• Professional experience with Golang
• Interest in developer and user experience, and quality product delivery
• Experience delivering projects from ideation to shipping
• Ability to break work into safe, iterative increments and communicate tradeoffs
• Willingness to collaborate across teams and align with stakeholder needs
• Familiarity with Kubernetes in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet, etc.)
• Experience with blameless incident response and post-incident reviews
