Backend Engineers – Mid-Level & Senior

Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office)

Salary: Up to 70,000 (Mid-Level) / 80,000 (Senior) + performance-based bonus

The Opportunity

We’re looking for two talented Backend Engineers, at mid-level and senior level, to join an innovative technology team within the financial services sector.

You’ll help design and build scalable, reliable backend services that support customer-facing digital products. Working closely with Product, Design and other engineering teams, you’ll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, introduce new tools and approaches, and contribute to the ongoing development of modern, cloud-based systems.

This is an environment where engineers are encouraged to share ideas, challenge existing processes and take ownership of delivering high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services.
• Translate complex business requirements into robust technical designs and architecture.
• Build and maintain APIs, microservices and data-driven applications.
• Contribute to technical decisions, recommending appropriate tools, frameworks and development practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, pair programming and technical presentations.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices and Agile delivery processes.
• For the senior position, provide technical leadership, mentor other engineers and support the development of engineering best practice.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong backend development experience using Python , with Django, FastAPI or other Python frameworks.
• Experience designing and building scalable, maintainable backend services.
• Good understanding of databases, object-oriented design, data structures and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of SOLID principles and sound software engineering practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technology Environment

The team works with a modern technology stack, including:

• Python, Django and FastAPI
• AWS and Kubernetes
• PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch
• Kafka and GitHub

Experience across every technology listed isn't essential; strong Python backend development experience is the priority.
