Overview
We are seeking an experienced Backend Java Developer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme within the Public Sector.
You'll play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining robust backend Java applications and services, taking ownership of complex development activities and providing technical expertise and guidance within the wider engineering team.

We are seeking an experienced Backend Java Developer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme within the Public Sector.
You'll play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining robust backend Java applications and services, taking ownership of complex development activities and providing technical expertise and guidance within the wider engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain high-quality backend Java applications and services.
- Apply strong software engineering principles to deliver scalable, secure and maintainable solutions.
- Work independently across varied and complex development activities within a large technology environment.
- Collaborate with engineering, testing and wider delivery teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver effective solutions.
- For more senior positions, enable other developers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing and code reviews, while providing advice on technical approach and engineering best practice.
- Strong commercial experience working as a Backend Java Developer.
- Experience designing and developing enterprise-scale Java applications and services.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean coding and development best practice.
- Experience with automated testing and unit testing.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile, multidisciplinary technology teams.
- For senior-level opportunities, experience enabling and supporting other developers and providing technical advice.
