Backend Java Kotlin Engineer

Build Java and Kotlin backend infrastructure for conversational AI solutions on a hybrid schedule in downtown Toronto. Focus on high-scale services and data architecture.

This intermediate Backend Software Engineer joins a Platform Engineering team at a large financial technology company. You will develop microservices, routing layers, relational databases, and LLM integrations. The 8-month T4 contract operates three days onsite weekly, with extension potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect high-throughput Java and Kotlin microservices
• Orchestrate requests between interfaces and LLM services
• Manage conversational workflow routing and persistence layers
• Design resilient relational database schemas at enterprise scale
• Own technical delivery from design through production deployment

Requirements:

• Five or more years of backend development experience
• Professional experience primarily developing with Java
• Hands-on Kotlin experience or ability to learn Kotlin microservices
• Proficiency with RDBMS and SQL design
• Degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience
