Backend Software Engineer (Python and Django)

Fully UK remote - must be based in the UK

Initial 6 month contact

Must have strong Python and Django skills.

We’re hiring a hands-on mid to senior Backend Engineer to build the APIs and backend workflows behind a redesigned client portal.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, test and maintain backend services and APIs in Python and Django
• Own work from refinement through to deployment
• Work closely with product, QA, platform and fellow engineers to shape practical solutions
• Make sound trade-offs across security, performance, cost and delivery
• Contribute to code reviews, testing, CI/CD and production reliability

What you’ll bring

• Strong commercial Python experience, with production Django (ORM, migrations, testing)
• Experience designing and delivering maintainable REST APIs on relational databases
• Good knowledge of authentication, authorisation, SSO and secure API design
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and diagnosing issues in live environments
• Understanding of cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure as code, ideally AWS
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues

Nice to have: FastAPI, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Docker, Celery, Redis, Sentry, Terraform/CDK, event-driven design, agile product teams
