Overview
In this role you will lead governance for the healthcare data research portfolio, ensuring compliance and accountability across the organisation. You will shape and implement governance frameworks to enable secure, ethical data use for research and innovation, balancing regulatory and financial considerations. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders to maximise the value of data assets while maintaining public trust. This is a chance to influence how data supports high-impact research that benefits patients and the NHS.
Responsibilities- Lead research data governance across the healthcare data research portfolio and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical, contractual, and organisational requirements
- Develop and implement governance frameworks that enable secure, ethical, and effective use of healthcare data for research and innovation
- Provide strategic oversight of funding, contracts, and financial governance to sustain delivery of research programmes and partnerships
- Engage stakeholders to support transparent reporting, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organisational objectives
- Communicate complex governance, compliance, and research delivery concepts to clinical, research, technical, and external partners
- Exercise autonomy and sound judgement while managing competing priorities in a complex environment
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification; postgraduate level management experience or Masters level education in healthcare data field
- Experience in technology, healthcare, and research innovation; strong knowledge of MHRA
- Experience in writing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- Experience with agile, user-centred project management; ability to negotiate and motivate teams
- Understanding of Research Data Governance process; experience with public & private sector funding
- Knowledge of UK GDPR, ISO standards, ICO guidance; extensive NHS data governance knowledge
- Experience dealing with sensitive information and interpreting data/digital documentation
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and travel as required

- Attention to detail and rigorous risk management
- Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- UK GDPR and ICO guidance
