Overview

In this role you will lead blast protection design within AECOM’s Building Engineering Division, applying expert blast analysis and CFD to protect people and structures. You will collaborate with security and structural teams on a range of projects, from offices to critical facilities, delivering safe and cost-effective solutions. You’ll drive technical excellence, manage project delivery, and contribute to business development and knowledge sharing. This is a chance to shape protective design in a multidisciplinary, global engineering setting and advance infrastructure resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical input on blast and protection engineering; lead blast protection design and CFD modelling
  • Oversee production/workload management for blast-related projects; develop work plans and ensure QA/technical assurance
  • Engage with clients to understand goals and challenges; liaise with sector leads and Building Engineering teams
  • Support business development, including sales and work winning
  • Perform risk and threat assessments to determine risk severity and treatment
  • Produce high-quality documentation (employer’s requirements, specifications, feasibility studies, designs)
  • Manage projects including progress reporting and contract administration where applicable
  • Mentor team members; share knowledge on SH&E best practices
Key requirements
  • Broad technical knowledge of security with in-depth expertise in blast analysis and design
  • Ability to determine operational and strategic design requirements
  • Expertise in blast modelling and CFD for blast-structure interaction
  • Proficiency with ANSYS, AutoDyn, or similar software for 3D finite element modelling
  • Strong understanding of physical security solutions and standards
  • Experience in threat reduction and structural/vulnerability analyses
  • Excellent document writing and attention to detail
  • Solid project management capabilities
  • Strong communication skills with stakeholders at senior levels
  • Ability to hold or obtain Security Clearance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Tact and collaborative team spirit
  • Ability to engage with senior stakeholders (architects, contractors)
