In this role you drive blast protection design within AECOM’s Building Engineering Division, collaborating with security and structural teams on diverse projects. You will lead technical input and CFD-based analyses to safeguard people and facilities, while guiding project delivery and client engagement. The role blends technical leadership with risk assessment, documentation, and design reviews to deliver cost-effective protective solutions. Responsibilities
  • Provide expert input on blast and protection engineering and lead blast protection design, including CFD modelling and complex structural analysis
  • Oversee production and workload management for blast-related projects; develop work plans and ensure quality/technical assurance
  • Engage with clients to understand goals, liaise with sector leads, and support cross-functional design efforts
  • Contribute to business development activities, including sales and work winning
  • Conduct risk and threat assessments to determine risk severity and appropriate mitigation
  • Produce documentation such as employer’s requirements, specifications, feasibility studies, and concept/scheme designs
  • Manage projects, provide progress reporting and contract administration where applicable
  • Mentor team members and promote SH&E best practices and knowledge sharing
Key requirements
  • Broad technical knowledge of security with in-depth expertise in blast analysis and design
  • Ability to determine operational and strategic design requirements
  • Expertise in blast modelling and CFD for blast-wave interaction
  • Proficiency with ANSYS, AutoDyn, or similar 3D finite element modelling tools
  • Strong understanding of physical security solutions and performance standards
  • Experience in threat reduction, structural vulnerability analyses, façade and glass evaluation, high-speed impact analysis, and fire effects on structures
  • Excellent document writing and meticulous attention to detail
  • Solid project management capabilities and strong design skills in structural security assessment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to hold or obtain Security Clearance
