Accountant Staffing
Our client is a growing, entrepreneurial organization seeking a Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant to join their team in Dartmouth, NS . This is an exciting permanent career opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, taking ownership, and playing a key role in keeping day-to-day accounting operations running smoothly.
Working closely with the Controller and broader team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute not only to accurate and efficient bookkeeping, but also to process improvements and the continued growth of the organization.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Manage accounts payable, including invoice processing and payment activities
- Contribute to shared accounts receivable and invoicing duties
- Complete journal entries, account maintenance, and process day-to-day transactions
- Perform detailed bank and account reconciliations
- Support the month-end close process
- Process payroll and related activities
- Assist with Canadian sales tax filings and other tax and compliance requirements
- Provide support on reporting requirements
- Assist with cross-border accounting activities, as needed
- Provide inventory and cost accounting support as required
- Identify opportunities to improve, streamline, and scale bookkeeping and accounting processes
- Support additional accounting-focused duties and projects as assigned
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or other related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive and demonstrable bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of ASPE, double-entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and G-Suite products
- Previous payroll experience, including Wagepoint or a similar platform, is an asset
- Experience within a regulated/product-based industry is a definite asset
- Inventory and cost accounting experience is strongly preferred
- Comfortable working independently, identifying issues before they become problems, and taking initiative to improve processes
- Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities
