Murgitroyd & Company
Business & Data Analyst – 12 months term
Location: Glasgow
About the role:
For over 50 years we’ve built a reputation as one of the world’s leading strategic IP firms. Trusted by global innovators and businesses to realise and protect the true value of their intellectual assets and recognised by leading institutions such as The Financial Times, The Legal 500, IP Stars, World Intellectual Property Review and IAM Patent 1000.
Our global office network spans Europe, North America and Asia. With over 330 employees (including over 90 attorneys) worldwide, our people have leading IP expertise across many industries.
The Business & CRM Data Analyst role at Murgitroyd will support our ongoing work to identify, develop and grow both new and existing client opportunities, while helping us improve the quality, structure and use of our CRM and commercial data.
The role holder will work closely with the Chief Commercial Officer and the seven-strong Marketing & BD team, supporting work across client development, research, insight, campaign activity and data management.
A key aspect of the role is the use of bespoke software tools, publicly available data, CRM information and internal commercial data to assess current work levels, working arrangements, client relationships and target opportunities.
The role will involve analysing filing trends, jurisdictions, external IP counsel, prosecution activity, CRM data quality, contact information, relationship history and wider portfolio data to build a clear understanding of client needs and market opportunities. It will also require research into target organisations to determine who currently provides IP services, how the firm may differentiate itself from existing providers, and how connections and relationships can be developed through channels such as LinkedIn, IP Pilot and CRM-led campaign activity.
This is a development-focused role. We will provide intensive training, including one-to-one buddying, practical coaching and support from experienced colleagues. The role is designed to build skills and capabilities that are in demand across the professional services sector, including CRM data management, client insight, market research, campaign support, commercial analysis and stakeholder engagement.
There is also a strong opportunity to branch out into client development and campaign management over time. The role holder will work on national and global IP insights, build a track record in a key area of law, data management and research insight, and contribute to work that helps shape commercial outcomes for the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Use IP Pilot and IPQuants to analyse existing clients, including filing trends, jurisdictions, external IP counsel, prosecution activity, and key portfolio data.
- Analyse reciprocity between Murgitroyd and other IP firms, particularly in the US market, tracking incoming and outgoing work to identify opportunities and maintain visibility of key relationships.

- Determine ways to develop connections and relationships with target clients, including through LinkedIn, IP Pilot, and other relevant tools and channels.
- Identify potential next steps for contacting prospective clients and work with internal stakeholders to define and progress outreach activity.
- Work with attorneys, the Chief Commercial Officer and the Marketing & BD team to develop sector-specific target lists and support strategic business development priorities.
- Support the management, cleansing and improvement of CRM data, helping ensure contact, relationship, sector, campaign and opportunity information is accurate, useful and commercially actionable.
- Contribute to client development and campaign management activity by turning research, CRM data and market insight into clear audience lists, briefing notes, outreach ideas and campaign support materials.
- Create high-value target microsites and use AI tools alongside Microsoft applications to produce insight-led client engagement materials.
- Support the Chief Commercial Director and the wider business with ad hoc requests, including tenders, client opportunities, market research, and new business enquiries.
- Use Excel, Power BI, and other analytical tools to manage, interrogate, and present large datasets clearly and effectively.
The role may evolve as the work undertaken above reveals additional opportunities Murgitroyd can explore. The core focus will remain on high-quality data, practical insight, disciplined research and commercial support that helps the firm shape and progress client opportunities.
