An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Data Engineer to join a leading organisation operating within the aviation and aerospace sector at its Oxford operation.

Working within the Business Improvements team, you will play a key role in developing and improving the organisation’s data infrastructure within a highly technical aviation environment. The role combines data engineering, data architecture, automation and application development , with a particular focus on establishing and maintaining a robust Single Source of Truth (SSOT) across business applications.

You will work with technologies including Python, SQLAlchemy, SQL, Skywise and Google AppSheet , developing data solutions that improve business processes, automate manual activities and provide reliable data for reporting and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain a robust Single Source of Truth (SSOT) across business applications.
• Develop and maintain scalable data architecture to support operational, reporting and analytical requirements.
• Develop workflows, applications and dashboards using Skywise, Google AppSheet and associated technologies .
• Build data models and database solutions using Python, SQL and SQLAlchemy .
• Integrate data from multiple sources while maintaining consistency, accuracy and accessibility.
• Implement validation processes and error-detection mechanisms to maintain high levels of data integrity and quality.
• Optimise data workflows and processing to improve efficiency, reliability and performance.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes relating to data collection, reporting and analysis.
• Translate business requirements into effective technical data solutions.
• Work closely with data analysts, technical teams and wider business stakeholders to ensure data solutions meet operational requirements.
• Maintain data architecture standards and ensure solutions remain scalable as business requirements evolve.

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience within data engineering, data architecture or a closely related discipline .
• Experience designing, developing or maintaining a Single Source of Truth (SSOT) architecture.
• Advanced programming skills in Python , with strong experience using SQLAlchemy for database interaction and data modelling.
• Strong SQL skills, including relational databases, database design and complex query optimisation.
• Experience with Google AppSheet, Apps Script, Google Sheets and Google automation tools .
• Knowledge of Git, PL/SQL, JavaScript, HTML and CSS .
• Strong understanding of data analysis methodologies, data modelling and data quality.
• Experience creating dashboards using Skywise, Google Looker or comparable platforms .
• Experience taking technical concepts through to production, with an understanding of both backend architecture and frontend business applications.
• Ability to understand existing business processes and identify opportunities for improvement and automation through data.
• Strong understanding of business metrics and KPIs and how data infrastructure supports effective decision-making.
• Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders to define requirements and translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
• Strong planning and scope-management skills.
• STEM HND or equivalent relevant qualification.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience within aviation, aerospace, defence, engineering or another highly regulated technical environment .
• Knowledge of airline or MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) operations .
• Proven experience implementing centralised SSOT data architecture .
• Application or software development experience.
• Broader commercial or industrial experience.

Additional Requirements

Due to the nature of the position, successful applicants will be required to undergo BPSS screening and must be eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance .

Candidates must also meet applicable Export Compliance requirements and already possess the legal right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
