Business Intelligence Lead

Lead BI Engineer | Permanent | Remote | Excellent Salary & Package

We're looking for a Lead BI Engineer to drive the design, governance and continuous improvement of enterprise BI and data platforms. You'll combine deep Azure platform expertise with technical leadership, helping teams deliver scalable, secure and high-quality solutions while influencing architecture and engineering standards across client environments.

What you'll be doing

• Lead and mentor a team of BI Engineers, coaching, development and technical growth.
• Own and evolve BI platform standards, including workspace structures, capacity planning, environments and scaling approaches.
• Provide technical leadership across complex projects and programmes, ensuring solutions align with agreed standards and strategic direction.
• Establish security, governance and access control standards across BI platforms.
• Own CI/CD approaches and reusable deployment frameworks, ensuring reliable releases.
• Drive platform reliability, monitoring and incident management processes.
• Develop capacity and cost management strategies to ensure platforms remain scalable and cost-effective.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor in client discussions, providing practical and commercially sound recommendations.
• Support project planning; platform estimates, feasibility assessments and scope validation.
• Contribute to resource planning; platform workload and capacity considerations.
• Work with Architects to ensure platform engineering aligns with wider data architecture and governance principles.
• Champion infrastructure-as-code, standardised platform patterns and engineering best practices across delivery teams.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Deep expertise in BI and analytics platform architecture, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Databricks, Synapse or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of platform capacity, licensing and scaling strategies.
• Strong leadership and coaching experience, with experience managing or leading engineering or platform teams.
• Deep knowledge of security, governance and compliance within analytics platforms.
• Proven experience delivering CI/CD strategies and infrastructure-as-code practices for BI environments.
• Commercial awareness, including effort estimation, cost planning and scope management.
• Ability to represent delivery and platform standards confidently within client environments.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for platform reliability, security and capacity management.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate automation, configuration and documentation.

Ideal Background

• 2+ years leading technical or engineering teams.
• 4+ years working with Azure data platform technologies.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault and Azure DevOps.
• Delivery of multiple end-to-end data platform implementations in enterprise environments.
