Locums - Mechanicsville, Virginia Interventional Cardiology Opportunity

Clinical Role RecruitWell is seeking a Board Certified Interventional Cardiologist for locums coverage in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This inpatient and call-based opportunity includes weekday onsite coverage, overnight and weekend call, potential inpatient rounding, STEMI coverage, and a broad range of interventional cardiology procedures.

Assignment Details

  • Coverage: December 18, 2026 at 7:00 AM - January 1, 2027 at 5:00 PM

  • Practice setting: Inpatient/Call

  • Reason for coverage: Potential departure of an affiliated Cardiology group

  • Adult and geriatric patient population

  • No clinic responsibilities

  • Potential inpatient rounding responsibilities

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday onsite: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

  • Monday-Friday evening call: 5:00 PM - 7:00 AM

  • Weekend call: Saturday 7:00 AM - Monday 7:00 AM

  • STEMI call aligns with unassigned call and non-invasive Cardiology coverage

  • Call ratio currently listed as 9 VCS to 7 RHV and remains to be finalized

Position Highlights

  • Inpatient Interventional Cardiology opportunity

  • Combination of onsite weekday coverage and call

  • Approximately 250-bed hospital

  • 30 ICU beds

  • More than 2 inpatient admissions per physician per day

  • Other Interventional Cardiologists will be present during locums coverage

  • No supervision of other healthcare providers required

  • Epic EMR

Call & Coverage Details

  • Call is expected to generate more phone consultations than hospital callbacks

  • STEMI callbacks occur less frequently than every other day on average

  • Facility reported 159 STEMI activations in 2025, with approximately 47% canceled

  • Emergent onsite callback remains required when clinically necessary

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient Interventional Cardiology coverage

  • Participate in STEMI call

  • Provide unassigned Cardiology call coverage

  • Support non-invasive Cardiology coverage as scheduled

  • Perform inpatient consultations and potential rounding

  • Evaluate and manage acute cardiovascular conditions

  • Perform indicated diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures

Procedures & Skills

  • Balloon angioplasty

  • Coronary angioplasty

  • Percutaneous coronary intervention

  • Heart catheterization

  • Coronary angiography

  • Medical management of vascular disease

  • Embolic protection

  • Carotid artery stenting

  • Atherectomy

Support & Technology

  • Other Interventional Cardiologists available during coverage

  • One affiliated group includes approximately 18 Interventional Cardiologists, with about 4 covering this location

  • Another group includes approximately 5 Interventional Cardiologists

  • EMR: Epic

  • 250 total beds

  • 30 ICU beds

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology required

  • Active Virginia medical license required

  • BLS required

  • ACLS required

  • Clean malpractice history required

Credentialing

  • Active Virginia license must be
