Position Overview

The District of Fort St. James is seeking a permanent full-time Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO is a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and oversight for the municipality. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the CFO leads all financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, long-term financial planning, asset management, taxation, payroll, procurement, and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will help Council and senior management make informed decisions by providing sound financial analysis, risk management advice, and strategic recommendations. The CFO plays a critical role in ensuring fiscal sustainability, maintaining accountability and transparency, and supporting the delivery of municipal services to residents.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, along with a CPA designation and 5 yrs experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience in local government finance, including management and supervisory responsibilities within a unionized environment.

The successful applicant will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with Council, staff, community stakeholders, and the public. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is necessary and experience with MAIS is considered an asset. The ability to attend evening Council meetings is required.

Additional Information

The CFO is a permanent full-time exempt position offering 35 hours of work per week, with a salary range of $108,662 to $132,809, as well as a competitive benefits package. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal record check and a verification of their education credentials.
