Overview

In this Cloud Architect role, you will design and deliver secure, scalable cloud solutions that empower intelligence, defence, and public sector operations. You will shape an architecture strategy and set standards to ensure high availability and compliance. You’ll lead cloud implementation, automation, and migrations from on-premises, while guiding engineering and operations teams. The role offers exposure to AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation within a mission‑driven, cross‑functional environment. You’ll work on impactful projects that protect national interests and advance cloud capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a cloud architecture strategy with standards, guidelines, and best practices; design secure, scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant AWS solutions.
  • Lead and participate in cloud solution implementations, including infrastructure setup, deployment automation, and application migration from on‑premises or other clouds.
  • Implement cloud governance policies covering cost management, IAM, and compliance to meet security and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency, identifying automation opportunities.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to engineering, operations, and development teams on cloud topics; act as a cloud SME.
Key requirements
  • Proven experience delivering cloud-based programmes in the Public Sector, National Security or Defence domains.
  • History of consulting customers throughout cloud solution delivery.
  • Exposure to security risk analysis and management related to technology platforms.
  • Detail-oriented, able to assimilate large amounts of information and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of core cloud services (compute, storage, networking, databases, security); AWS examples include EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, Lambda.
  • Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, load balancing, firewalls).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Understanding of containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles and best practices.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
