Overview

As Site Reliability Engineering Lead, you will head a CloudOps team delivering mission-critical cloud services for a UK public sector client. You will fuse hands-on engineering with leadership to ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of cloud platforms. You will drive operational excellence, promote automation, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver secure, resilient solutions. This role offers the chance to shape cloud operations at scale, align with security and governance standards, and influence service delivery. You will be the bridge between engineering, QA, product, and operations to continuously improve reliability and time-to-market.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a CloudOps engineering team with performance management and career growth
  • Manage on-call rota and 24/7 operational readiness
  • Oversee administrative and resource planning
  • Represent CloudOps in Programme Board, Architecture, Service Reviews and client meetings
  • Design and implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and scaling of AWS resources
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise cloud services for uptime and rapid incident resolution
  • Implement cost optimisation and performance tuning
  • Develop disaster recovery and backup strategies
  • Ensure compliance with security and governance standards, including handling sensitive data
  • Maintain documentation for infrastructure and operational processes
  • Collaborate with QA, Product, and Development teams to improve service reliability and time-to-market
Key requirements
  • Proven CloudOps/DevOps/SRE experience (10+ years) with strong leadership
  • Cloud architecture expertise with AWS preferred
  • Linux environments and containerisation
  • Python or similar programming languages
  • Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD automation
  • Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced, distributed teams
  • Eligible for DBS check and UK Security Clearance
  • Experience with public sector or healthcare systems is desirable
