About the Opportunity

A leading global technology and research organisation is looking for a senior technical expert to join its advanced computing research team in Cambridge.

This is a highly strategic role focused on identifying the next generation of computing technologies and helping shape long-term R&D direction.

The position is suited to someone with deep technical expertise in computer architecture, AI computing, high-performance computing or related areas, combined with a strong understanding of emerging academic and industry trends.

Unlike a traditional engineering role, this position combines technical depth with technology strategy, external research collaboration and ecosystem engagement.

The successful candidate will work closely with international R&D teams while building relationships with leading universities, research institutes, startups, technology companies and investment communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse long‑term challenges and emerging opportunities across advanced computing and AI technologies.
  • Identify important technology trends, breakthrough research directions and leading technical resources across the global computing ecosystem.
  • Work closely with international R&D teams to help define short‑term and long‑term technology roadmaps.
  • Conduct technical deep dives into emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on future computing platforms.
  • Provide strategic insight across areas such as processor architecture, AI computing, memory, interconnect, accelerators and high‑performance computing.
  • Identify potential opportunities for academic collaboration, technology partnerships, investment or acquisition.
  • Build and maintain long‑term relationships with leading universities, research laboratories, startups and technology partners.
  • Attend and engage with major academic conferences, industry events and research communities.
  • Translate emerging academic research and technical developments into commercially and strategically relevant opportunities.
  • Support senior stakeholders with technical insight and recommendations relating to future computing technology.

Technical Areas of Interest

Candidates should have strong expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • CPU, GPU, NPU or DPU architecture
  • AI accelerators
  • Memory systems and memory hierarchy
  • Interconnect and Network-on-Chip technologies
  • High‑performance computing
  • AI servers and HPC servers
  • Hardware/software co‑design
  • Heterogeneous computing
  • Advanced processor technologies

Experience across multiple areas would be particularly valuable.

Candidate Profile

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong preference for candidates with a PhD and an established research background.
  • Deep technical expertise within advanced computing, processor architecture, AI computing or a closely related field.
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging trends within computing technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new technical areas through academic papers, conferences and engagement with technical experts.
  • Strong academic or industrial research background.
  • Track record of scientific publications at recognised conferences or journals.
  • Strong analytical and technical insight capabilities.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior researchers, professors, engineers, technology executives and external partners.
  • Ability to operate effectively across both technical and strategic discussions.
  • Professional working proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Preferred Background

Particularly relevant candidates may currently or previously have worked within:

  • Major semiconductor or processor companies
  • Leading AI or cloud technology companies
  • Advanced computing research organisations
  • Top‑tier university research laboratories
  • CPU/GPU/accelerator architecture teams
  • AI infrastructure or HPC organisations

Candidates with experience from globally recognised technology companies or leading universities will be particularly relevant.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This is not a conventional engineering position.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence future technology direction, evaluate breakthrough technologies before they become mainstream, and work closely with some of the world's leading researchers, universities and technology organisations.

The role provides significant exposure to long‑term computing strategy and is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with broader technology vision and external collaboration.
