About the Opportunity
- Manage project-related contracts, purchase orders, billing, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, customers, and internal teams regarding billing, payments, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Partner with Project Managers and operational teams to manage project budgets, costing, change orders, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Monitor project costs against budget and investigate significant variances or unexpected expenses.
- Review project expenses and identify items that may be non-recoverable or require further investigation.
- Manage accounts receivable activities and collections for assigned projects.
- Review and maintain project-related accounts payable and receivable records.
- Prepare monthly project billings and supporting documentation in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Develop a strong understanding of project agreements and ensure financial requirements are accurately reflected in billing and reporting.
- Lead project accounting activities including reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, and month-end close.
- Work with project teams to develop and maintain project spend plans and forecasts.
- Participate in regular project reviews to validate costs to complete, forecast-at-completion, revenue, profitability, and other key financial metrics.
- Challenge project financial assumptions and identify potential risks, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Assess financial risks and opportunities and support the ongoing maintenance of project risk and action plans.
- Review invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and other financial documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze project cost information and identify opportunities for improved financial performance and cost control.
- Prepare project financial reports, including profitability, cash flow, forecasting, and other management reporting.
- Provide regular financial updates and insights to Project Managers and senior leadership.
- Maintain complete and organized project financial records throughout the project lifecycle and through closeout.
- Support project and contract closeout activities.
- Ensure financial transactions and documentation comply with contractual, organizational, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support external audits, year-end activities, and periodic financial reporting, including preparation of supporting schedules and working papers.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and operational teams where contractual or financial issues require resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting.
- Respond to customer and internal stakeholder requests related to project financial matters.
- Perform other duties and financial analysis as assigned.
About You
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA enrollment or progress toward a professional designation is an asset.
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within a project-based environment.
- Experience within construction, engineering, consulting, infrastructure, or another project-driven industry is an asset.
- Experience with project accounting and financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, billing, cost analysis, and month-end activities.
- Strong ability to analyze financial data and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with project accounting or ERP systems is an asset.
- Ability to work closely with operational and project teams in a hands-on environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a highly organized, methodical approach.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel to assigned project locations as required.
Salary Range
$80,000 - $100,000/year
You must currently reside within the Greater Toronto Area and be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
