Job Description

The Controller is responsible for the financial management of CandorBuild's construction operations, including job cost accounting, work-in-progress reporting, cash management, payroll, compliance, and financial reporting to the company's surety, banking and insurance partners.

CandorBuild is growing. The company is moving its accounting from a fractional external arrangement to an in-house function, and is replacing its current mix of accounting and reporting tools with a purpose-built construction ERP. The Controller will take a lead role in that implementation and in shaping how the company's financial systems and reporting work from that point forward.

The position works closely with project management, estimating and field operations. CandorBuild's leadership team works collaboratively and across functions, and the Controller is expected to communicate financial reality in plain language to stakeholders.

The role suits an experienced construction accountant who is comfortable owning a full accounting function and building the systems that support it.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Full-cycle accounting and monthly internal financial reporting.
• Job costing and work-in-progress reporting on a percentage-of-completion basis.
• Progress billing, receivables and cash flow management.
• Payroll and employee administration.
• Statutory remittances and construction industry compliance.
• Financial reporting to the company's surety, bank and insurance broker.
• A lead role in implementing and administering the company's new construction ERP.

Administrative support is available to this role. The scope of that support will be determined with the successful candidate based on the needs of the function.

Year-end financial statements, corporate tax and specialist claim preparation remain with external advisors.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

• Four-day work week, four 10-hour days.

Skills

Required

• Construction industry accounting experience, specifically percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and WIP reporting. This requirement is not substitutable with general industry experience.
• Demonstrated full-cycle accounting ownership in an organization of comparable scale.
• Canadian payroll and statutory remittance experience.
• Working knowledge of builders' lien holdback, Workers' Compensation and subcontractor compliance requirements.

Preferred

• Experience implementing or administering a construction ERP.
• Multi-jurisdiction experience, particularly Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.
• Remote or northern project cost experience.
• Demonstrated use of AI and automation tools in a finance function, with sound judgment about where automation is appropriate and where it is not.
• Experience supporting surety and bank reporting.
• Comfort operating in a company actively building its systems rather than inheriting established ones.
