Corporate Accounting Manager

Hybrid | Chicago

A growing, privately owned, real estate development and construction firm is seeking a Corporate Accounting Manager to oversee accounting across corporate, property, and ownership entities. This highly visible role reports to the Controller, and works closely with ownership, leadership, auditors, and external partners.

This is a search for a hands-on accounting leader who can manage a broad multi-entity function while strengthening reporting, processes, controls, and team performance.

Position Summary

The Corporate Accounting Manager will lead corporate and investment entity accounting, including financial reporting, close, budgeting, tax coordination, audits, and significant transactions. The position will also manage accounting staff, support technology improvements, and ensure deadlines are met across a complex real estate and construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting for corporate, property, and ownership entities
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare financial statements, account analyses, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Coordinate tax return preparation and work with third-party tax advisors
  • Manage accounting and reporting for acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and other significant transactions
  • Support annual budgeting and midyear forecasting
  • Oversee investment entity accounting, including capital calls
  • Manage internal and external reporting commitments
  • Coordinate annual audits and maintain relationships with external auditors
  • Maintain accounting policies, procedures, controls, and system integrity
  • Lead, train, and develop a Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant
  • Manage team workflow and ensure close deadlines are met
  • Support accounting system implementations and department training
  • Drive process improvement, automation, and general-ledger efficiencies
  • Prepare special reports and support additional projects for leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • CPA required
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Tax exposure through public accounting, direct preparation, or management of third-party tax processes required
  • Construction or real estate accounting experience preferred
  • Strong experience with financial reporting, close, budgeting, audits, and reconciliations
  • Experience supervising accounting staff and managing departmental workflow
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with construction or real estate accounting systems preferred
  • Timberline or Sage 300 experience is a plus
  • Strong written, verbal, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: Up to $120,000 - $140,000
  • Bonus: Target approximately 10%
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) company match, and additional benefits
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 3 days onsite
  • Location: Downtown Chicago
