Cost Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Hybrid | Bedford, Nova Scotia

Duration: 6 months

Our client, a leading financial institution in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is looking for a Cost Analyst to reconcile invoices and calculate internal business allocations following business-agreed methodology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in role:

• Investigate reconciliation discrepancies and coordinate resolution with vendor and trading business
• Document variances to best practice and provide to the team lead for approval
• Prepare allocation templates and post to financial systems
• Arrange vendor payment through accounts payable or manual payment
• Manage special financial scenarios: accruals, prepayments, journals, etc. Prepare reports for and respond to inquiries from various parties, including the trading business, product control, and financial control
• Perform cost analysis identifying material trends and drivers and/or opportunities for savings. Perform business analysis and testing in relation to onboarding of new invoices or enhancements to processing of existing invoices
• Work on assigned projects in the areas of process improvement and automation

Must-Have Skills:

• 1-3 years of experience in Capital Markets, Securities Trading, Brokerage, or similar environment
• Familiarity with Capital Markets products and various associated supporting systems used within the organization (Fixed Income, Money Markets, Equities, Derivatives, etc.)
• Understanding of accounting procedures and systems
• Highly organized with an attention to detail and an ability to analyze information
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly to trading business and senior management
• Comfortable with adhering to deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Excel
• Knowledge of products and services in relation to assigned invoices

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• Knowledge of global providers of 3rd party trade execution services including Brokers, Exchanges, Clearing and Settlement Agents, Securities Depositories, Custodians, and Regulators
• Understanding of Capital Markets organizational structure (including front office sales and trading, middle office, product control, back-office operations, regulatory/compliance, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of VBA and SQL
• CPA / CFA

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
