Description
About the role
At DMCL, we believe that building a successful career in accounting starts with hands-on experience, great mentorship, and opportunities to explore what interests you most.
We're looking for a CPA Articling Student to join our growing Cloud Accounting team in Surrey! This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys bookkeeping and accounting, working with clients, and gaining practical experience while working toward their CPA designation.
As part of our Cloud Accounting team, you'll work closely with a variety of small and medium-sized businesses, helping them manage their day-to-day accounting needs. From managing bookkeeping processes and preparing personal tax returns to working with tools like QuickBooks Online, Hubdoc, Plooto, and PaymentEvolution, you'll gain valuable experience across different clients and industries.
Unlike a traditional CPA articling role, this position offers a more specialized focus on bookkeeping, cloud accounting, and client service. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of client work, build meaningful relationships, and develop your technical skills with the support of experienced team members.
If you're someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with numbers, and seeing the direct impact of your work on clients, this could be a great fit!
How you'll make a difference
- Get hands-on with client accounting. Manage day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial records for a variety of clients.
- Support clients with their bookkeeping needs. Use QuickBooks Online and other accounting tools to maintain accurate and organized financial records.
- Support our clients with their accounting needs. Prepare personal tax returns, working papers, and other accounting assignments.
- Support client reporting. Assist with financial reports, GST/PST filings, and other accounting tasks.
- Build meaningful client relationships. Communicate with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide support.
- Bring fresh ideas to the table. Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to a collaborative team.
Who you are
You're someone who enjoys working with numbers, learning new things, and building relationships with others. You're curious, organized, and excited to develop your accounting skills in a hands-on, client-focused environment.
- You have completed an undergraduate degree with a focus in accounting or a related field.
- You have an interest in bookkeeping, personal tax preparation, and working with small and medium-sized businesses.
- You're comfortable learning new software and accounting tools. Experience with QuickBooks Online is an asset, but not required.
- You're proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- You're detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- You're a strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with others and building relationships with clients.
- You're eager to learn, open to feedback, and excited to take initiative as you grow your skills.
Our students benefit from
- A CPA mentor to support you throughout your journey to CPA designation.
- Extensive in-house CFE support facilitated by experts experienced with marking the CFE.
- Both informal and formal mentorship programs.
- Comprehensive training to support your professional development.
- Hands-on learning that provides continued technical skills development and diverse business experience.
- Opportunities to work directly with clients across a variety of industries and develop practical bookkeeping, accounting, and tax skills.
- A professional working environment with a culture that focuses on work-life balance and flexibility.
